Academies progress
Durham County Council’s Planning Committee met today at County Hall to consider 3 pre-planning applications for academies in Consett, Stanley and Seaham.
The committee approved the outline plans concluding that there were no substantive planning reasons for rejecting the principle of these developments on their various sites.
Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, Cllr Neil Foster said after the meeting, “This is a critical point in the development of this next wave of Building Schools for the Future and will allow for the development of the detailed plans for each of the new schools.
“In relation to the overall regeneration of Consett town centre, the academy will bring investment of £45M with the shared facilities of the new leisure centre and residents can now look forward to much wider benefits of an overall master plan the town with the work of GVA Grimley.”
The academy in Consett will replace Moorside Community Technology College and Consett Community Sports College.
In Stanley, the academy will replace Greencroft Business and Enterprise Community School and Stanley School of Technology.
In Seaham, the programme will see a re-build of Seaham School of Technology.
